Looking Forward
To say that 2020 has been an unusual year may be the understatement of the century. There are a lot of mixed feelings and opinions being expressed by Americans nationwide. Frankly, I have been unsure of what to write lately. I don’t want to disregard the challenges many people are facing right now, but I also do not feel obligated to take any stance on any sensitive issues at the moment. We are all different—that’s what makes the world go round.
When it comes to writing, I have made it a point to focus on happy thinking. For the past handful of years, I have been working with Jim Schmit on his biography picking apart his happy brain to see what makes him tick. I have learned a great deal from Jim and am always impressed by how he effortlessly looks forward. He is always thinking in the present and the future. Jim does not dismiss the past, but he also does not dwell in it either. Afterall, the past cannot be changed. It is what it is.
Because of this way of thinking, Jim does not harbor any ill will or resentment for those who have wronged him nor does he regret past decisions. He simply lets go and moves on. Although I’m not as good at letting go as Jim is, I am getting better. I recognize that energy spent frustrated in the past is a waste of time, especially when it can be spent enjoying the present and planning a productive future.
